Vatican City (Fides News Agency) - The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Karaganda, Kazakhstan, presented by Bishop Adelio Dell’Oro.
The Holy Father has appointed Msgr. Piotr Pytlowany, priest fidei donum of the archdiocese of Przemyśl, Poland, until now parish priest of the Cathedral of Astana and spokesperson of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Central Asia, as bishop of Karaganda, Kazakhstan.
Msgr. Piotr Pytlowanty was born on 7 May 1969 in Brzozów, Poland. After his primary and secondary school education, he entered the archdiocesan major seminary of Przemyśl. On 28 April 1994 he obtained a bachelor’s degree from the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin, and in 2018, he was awarded a doctorate in theology from the Pontifical John Paul II University in Krakow.
On 28 May 1994 he received priestly ordination, and was incardinated into the archdiocese of Przemyśl.
He has held the following offices: parish vicar of the Most Holy Trinity in Leżajsk (1994-1995); in 1995, as priest fidei donum, he began his pastoral service in Kazakhstan as parish priest of Saint Joseph in Makchinsk (1995-2000), parish priest of Saint Abraham in Schuchinsk (2000-2001), parish priest of the Cathedral of Our Mother of Perpetual Succour in Astana (2001-2007), prefect of discipline (2008-2009) and rector of the interdiocesan seminary of Karaganda (2011-2018), spokesperson of the Bishops’ Conference (since 2018), parish priest of Queen of the Holy Rosary in Akmol (2023-2025), and parish priest of the Cathedral of Our Mother of Perpetual Succour in Astana (since 2025).
