Hong Kong (Agenzia Fides) – The Archbishop of Beijing, Joseph Li Shan, thanks the Lord for the intense days of meetings in the Diocese of Hong Kong, which he visited together with a delegation of collaborators from the capital of the People's Republic of China. This is reported by the weekly newspaper of the Archdiocese of Beijing "Kung Kao Po", which reports that Bishop Li Shan and the Beijing delegation returned a courtesy visit that the Bishop of Hong Kong and now Cardinal, Stephen Chow, paid to the Archdiocese of Beijing last April. On Wednesday, November 15, during the Solemn Eucharistic Liturgy at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Hong Kong, Bishop Joseph Li expressed his emotion at concelebrating around the same altar with Cardinal John Tong, Bishop Emeritus of Hong Kong, and Cardinal Stephen Chow. The Bishop of Beijing thanked "Cardinal Chow and his brothers and sisters in Hong Kong for making this exchange possible" and also for the theological conference organized on the occasion of the visit. Also taking part in the liturgy in the cathedral as concelebrants were Joseph Yang Yongqiang - the Bishop of Zhoucun who participated in the Synod on synodality held in Rome in October - and the Auxiliary Bishop of Hong Kong, Joseph Ha (ofm), as well as numerous priests from Hong Kong and Beijing. Bishop Li Shan encouraged everyone, priests, religious and lay people: "Regardless of the difficulties we may encounter," said the Bishop of Beijing, "we must remain faithful and grateful to the Lord and always praise God." As part of the Beijing delegation's three-day visit to Hong Kong, the program also included visits to Caritas, the Holy Spirit Seminary and the Holy Spirit Study Center, as well as a joint prayer in the chapel dedicated to the Chinese martyrs, where of all the missionaries who brought the Gospel to China and where Cardinal John Tong was honored as the first director of the Holy Spirit Study Center. On the occasion of the visit, the study center organized a theological conference on the topic of "Synodality and the Church in China: Community, Participation and Mission" as well as the third joint symposium of scholars from Hong Kong and mainland China on the topic of "Sinicization" from the perspective of theology. Cardinal Chow spoke about his experience at the World Synod in Rome, emphasizing that "the main actor of synodality is the Holy Spirit and that people should listen to the Holy Spirit instead of claiming to run the Church with 'democratic' methods ". Bishop Joseph Li Shan said he was impressed by "the development of the Church in Hong Kong, from which we can learn a lot," and said he wanted to "take this experience home and work hard to ensure that the Catholic Church in Beijing grows for the better".
