Taipei (Agenzia Fides) - In February, the 31st TIBE 2023 Taipei International Book Exhibition took place in the Taipei World Trade Center, with the participation of the local Catholic Church, which gave positive results.
The cultural event attracted 505,000 visitors and was an opportunity for initiatives and meetings that made it possible to present experiences and stories of faith and Christian life to people and many young people who had never had contact with the proclamation of the Gospel. The Taiwan Regional Bishops' Conference sponsored an entire pavilion at the Fair, which was inaugurated by Father Philip Huang Zhaoming, President of the Taiwan Bishops' Conference Social Communications Committee.
Information material about the upcoming World Youth Day 2023 in Lisbon was also presented to the Taiwanese youth in the Catholic pavilion of the fair.
"Guest country" of the event was Poland. For this reason, the Polish missionaries present in Taiwan, including Sister Mariola Stawasz, helped organize the meetings and initiatives in the pavilion of the Catholic Church. Typical Polish sweets were offered, and Polish scholars explained Poland's deep connection with the Catholic faith and devotion to Our Lady of Czestochowa. Visitors also learned the story of Father Michel Boym (1612-1659), a Polish Jesuit, missionary, scientist and explorer in China, also known as the "Polish Marco Polo".
Archbishop Thomas Chung Anzu of Taipei also attended the Mass, according to the Tai Pei Archdiocese's Christian Life Weekly, who urged visitors to the Catholic pavilion to read books to discover "spiritual treasures" that bring joy along the path of life and give comfort.
According to the event's official website (https://taipeibookfair.org/), a total of 505,000 visitors attended 811 events over the six days of the fair, which were also organized according to subject categories. A total of 470 exhibitors from 33 countries presented their publishing work. The organizers also aimed to present the high level of multimedia in the Taiwanese publishing industry.
