Taipei (Fides News agency) - With a webinar in Chinese on Pope Francis' message for World Mission Sunday 2023, the National Directorate of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Taiwan aims with this unprecedented event to get Chinese-speaking participants in the mood for World Mission Sunday, traditionally celebrated on the penultimate Sunday in October to raise funds for Catholic missions around the world. The initiative was launched in collaboration with the International Secretariat of the Pontifical Missionary Union, and the webinar, which takes place today, Friday, October 13, at 11 a.m. (Central European Time), is part of a series of similar initiatives promoted by the Pontifical Missionary Union throughout this year aimed at highlighting the importance of disseminating issues related to mission work in the language of local communities beginning with Russian and Polish ones and ending with the Vietnamese.
"What counts is the spirit with which we carry out these initiatives, the spirit of communion in prayer and in our missionary action," stressed the Secretary General of the Pontifical Missionary Union, Father Din Anh Nhue Nguyen (OFM Conv.), who is working to ensure that these events are disseminated as widely as possible among the national directorates of the Pontifical Mission Societies. Among the participants today are some members of the Chinese community in Munich, who were invited by missio Munich to attend. The central element of the webinar will be the contribution of the National Director of Pontifical Mission Societies in Taiwan, Father Khohi Mbwi, who will explain the Pope's message for World Mission Day 2023 in the context of his pastoral experience.
Today's date marks the beginning of the week that will culminate with World Mission Sunday on October 22, when the Regional Catholic Seminary of Taiwan will host the "Missionary night" event for young people. Music, games, prayer and testimonies will alternate during this evening dedicated to deepening the theme and history of mission, and above all, as an opportunity for a deeper encounter with Jesus.
