Montevideo (Agenzia Fides) – "You catechists are witnesses to the fact that, anchored in hope, you are committed to our reality, moving toward the goal: a life of eternal love," writes Bishop Pablo Jourdan in a letter to the country's catechists on the occasion of the upcoming National Day of Catechesis, which will be celebrated on August 24.

The upcoming day of action is intended as an opportunity for encounter, prayer, and renewal of catechetical commitment, and this year's theme is "Anchored in Hope." Jourdan, bishop of the diocese of Melo y Treinta y Tres, President of the Catechesis Department of the Uruguayan Episcopal Conference (CEU),
emphasizes the value of catechists as bearers of hope within communities.

On behalf of the country's bishops, he also emphasized that the Church in Uruguay "reaffirms its commitment to the formation of missionary disciples who will proclaim the Gospel with joy, confident in a hope that never disappoints, and centered on Eternal Life."

According to the statement issued for the day, the Day of Catechesis is inspired by the message of the Apostle Paul: "Hope does not disappoint", and is intended to reinforce the call to sow seeds of hope in hearts, even in times of uncertainty. As Pope Francis states in the papal bull announcing the Jubilee of 2025, “the Holy Year is an opportunity to rekindle the hope that, like a firm anchor, sustains the life of the believer.” (AP) (Agenzia Fides, 8/8/2025)
