ASIA/THAILAND - Appointment of bishop of Chanthaburi

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Philip Adisak Phorn-Ngam, of the clergy of Chanthaburi, Thailand, until now diocesan administrator of the same diocese and parish priest of The Immaculate Conception Cathedral, as bishop of the diocese of Chanthaburi.
Msgr. Philip Adisak Phorn-Ngam was born on 19 November 1954 in Hua Phai. He studied philosophy and theology at the Lux Mundi National Major Seminary in Sampran. He was ordained a priest on 13 September 1986 for the diocese of Chanthaburi.
After ordination, he held the roles of economic director of the Darasamut Secondary Schoool in Si Racha (1986-1988), and vice rector of the Holy Family Intermediate Seminary in Nakhon Ratchiasima (1990-1994). He studied spiritual theology at the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas “Angelicum” in Rome (1994-1996), and went on to serve as formator and professor of the Lux Mundi National Major Seminary in Sampran (1996-2007) and rector of the Lux Mundi National Major Seminary in Sampran (2007-2015). Following a biblical refresher course, Ecce Homo, in Jerusalem (2015-2016), he held the offices of parish priest of Saint Nicholas and Assumption in Pattaya (2016-2020). Since 2020 he has served as parish priest of The Immaculate Conception Cathedral in Chanthaburi and, since 2023, diocesan administrator during the Sede vacante of Chanthaburi.
