EUROPE/ICELAND - Nordic countries hold webinar on the Pope's message for World Mission Day

Monday, 2 September 2024 pontifical mission societies   missionary animation   world mission day

Reykjavik (Agenzia Fides) – Today at 6:00 pm (CET) the first webinar of the Nordic countries will be held on the Pope's message for the upcoming World Mission Sunday, entitled "Go and invite everyone to the banquet" (cf. Mt 22:9). This event, organized by the International Secretariat of the Pontifical Missionary Union (PMU) in collaboration with Missio Nordica, the "unitary direction" of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) that brings together Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden, will be held in English and will be open to all.

The program includes a video welcome message from Cardinal Luis Antonio Gokim Tagle, Pro-Prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelization (Section for First Evangelization and New Particular Churches), who will present Pope Francis' message for World Mission Sunday 2024. Then, the Secretary General of the Pontifical Missionary Union, Father Dinh Anh Nhue Nguyen, OFMConv, will delve into the contents of the message, highlighting in particular the passage in which the Holy Father advocates the beginning of "a new missionary movement" throughout the Church and the world, to which "everyone can contribute: with prayer and action, with offerings of money and suffering, and with their own witness" (Message of the Holy Father for World Mission Sunday 2023).

The National Director of Missio Nordica, Ivan Sovic, will then speak, and the webinar will conclude with a space for discussion and comments from the participants.

"This webinar," explains the director of Missio Nordica, "represents a milestone for our office, as we strive to promote the missionary spirit of the Church and share our message with the people of God in the Nordic region. The Catholic Church in the Nordic countries is primarily a community of foreigners and immigrants, with members from almost every country in the world, which makes it truly Catholic in the universal sense. I hope that we will emerge from this webinar with renewed energy to invite everyone, to build a more visible presence of the Pontifical Mission Societies and to cultivate a Church in the Nordic region aware of its missionary spirit."
