AFRICA/BENIN - Appointment of the Rector of the Saint-Gall National Theological Major Seminary in Ouidah

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On 31 August 2023, Cardinal Luis Antonio G. Tagle, Pro-Prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelization, appointed Father Bertrand Djossou of the clergy in Ouidah as Rector of the Saint-Gall National Theological Major Seminary of Ouidah Lokossa. Father Djossou is 47 years old and has been a priest for 18 years. He attended the Saint Paul Minor Seminary in Djimé (1990-1994) and the Notre Dame de Fatima Minor Seminary in Parakou (1994-1997). After a year of spirituality at the Propedeutic Seminary in Missérété (1997-1998), he studied philosophy at the Saint-Gall Major Seminary in Ouidah (1998-2000) and after a year of pastoral formation (2000-2001), theology at the same seminary (2001-2005). He holds a doctorate in canon law, obtained from the Pontifical Urbaniana University in Rome (2015-2019). After his ordination, he held various positions: parochial vicar of the parish of Saint-Bernard in Sé (2005-2007), administrative secretary of the Bishops' Conference of Benin (2007-2010), chaplain of the Catholic College in Comé (2010-2011), parochial vicar of the parish " Saint-Jean” in Bastia, France (2014-2015), interim Parish Priest in the Diocese of Ajaccio, France (2020-2021) and since 2022, he has been Resident Formator and lecturer of Canon Law at the Saint-Gall Major Seminary in Ouidah.
