AFRICA/LIBERIA - Appointment of the Metropolitan Archbishop of Monrovia

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father has appointed the Rev. Monsignor Gabriel Blamo Jubwe, of the clergy of Monrovia, Diocesan Administrator and Parish Priest of St. Pius X, as Metropolitan Archbishop of Monrovia (Liberia).
His Exc. Msgr. Gabriel Blamo Jubwe was born on September 7, 1958 in Lagos (Nigeria). After completing his formation at the St. Paul Major Seminary in Gbarnga, Liberia, he was ordained a priest on December 18, 1983 for the Archdiocese of Monrovia.
He has held the following positions and carried out further studies: pastoral positions in the Archdiocese (1983-1986); Doctorate in Liturgy at the Pontifical University of Sant'Anselmo in Rome (1986-1991); Administrator of the Cathedral of Monrovia, Director of the Diocesan Pastoral Center, Member of the Justice and Peace Commission of the Liberian Council of Churches and Inter-Religious Council of Liberia (1992-1996); Rector of the Queen of Apostles Minor Seminary and of the St. Charles Lwanga Preparatory Seminary of Monrovia (1996-1999); Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Monrovia (1996-2000); Secretary General of the Liberian Episcopal Conference (1998-2001); Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies (1999-2004); Rector of the St. Paul Major Seminary in Gbarnga (2001-2007); Member of the College of Consultors of the Archdiocese of Monrovia (2006-2021).
He is the author of some writings, as well as radio broadcasts and is a member of various Boards. Parish priest of St Pio X, since 2021 he has been Diocesan Administrator of Monrovia. (EG) (Agenzia Fides, 28/2/2024)
