Lahore (Agenzia Fides) - Christian activist Aslam Masih, a volunteer and collaborator of the NGO "Legal Evangelical Association Development" (LEAD), committed to the free legal assistance to poor Pakistani Christians, was shot in the legs in Lahore. The episode, says Christian lawyer Sardar Mushtaq Gill, director of LEAD to Fides, "is a clear sign of intimidation towards our work".
The attack took place on October 28, but the news was released only now for security reasons. Aslam was shot by a group of four Muslims. The man was rushed to the General Hospital in Lahore. Before shooting, the criminals asked him to withdraw a complaint that the police had registered in one of the cases that followed. When he refused they opened fire.
This is the second case in 2015. Another volunteer of LEAD was injured months ago with a bullet in the back. "LEAD is continuing a campaign against the abuse of the blasphemy laws: this is a dangerous thing in Pakistan" concluded Gill. (PA) (Agenzia Fides 13/11/2015)
