ASIA/PAKISTAN - Christian teacher denounced on false charges of proselytism

Monday, 7 December 2015 discrimination   islam   persecutions

Lahore (Agenzia Fides) - Denounced because she "preached Christianity to Muslim girls": this is the fate of Mary Javaid, a Christian teacher at a female primary school in the district of Pakpattan, in the province of Punjab. As reported to Fides by Christian Advocate Sardar Mushtaq Gill, Mary is now in a rather difficult situation. A Muslim man Muhammad Sharif filed a complaint against her to the Department of Education with accusations which are completely false. According to the lawyer this represents yet another case of discrimination and abuse towards a Christian involved in the delicate area of education.
Recently, another case regards Azam Saddique, a Catholic teacher appointed headmaster at a primary school was beaten and tortured by a group of extremist Muslim teachers who rejected his authority (see Fides 06/10/2015). Muslim teachers expressed hatred and resentment against him just because of the religion he professed. (PA) (Agenzia Fides 07/12/2015)
