Bogota (Agenzia Fides) - In a climate of hope that the contacts of the government with the FARC to reach concrete results, Colombia is getting ready for the annual "Week for Peace". "President Juan Manuel Santos has always told us to participate in the peace talks with the FARC, but the right moment to intervene should be considered carefully," says the Bishop of the Diocese of Fontibon, His Exc. Mgr. Juan Vicente Cordoba Villota, SJ in a note sent to Fides. Mgr. Córdoba also emphasizes the hope that the conversations with the FARC are successful, because it is not an easy process and needs a lot of care. The Church, however, is still waiting for a signal from the President to intervene. Even the Catholic Episcopal Conference in a statement (see Fides 29/08/2012) manifested its total willingness to participate at the appropriate time.
In these days in the meantime Colombia is preparing the celebration of the "Week for Peace 2012" to be held from September 9 to 15 with a series of activities in different cities around the country. In the Archdiocese of Cartagena, for example, a march was organized that will open this Week in order to raise awareness for the participation of all. The slogan of the Week will be: "Accompanying the victims, builds a road to peace." The call is surely not just think about the victims of armed conflict, but also to the many victims of abuse or violation of rights. (CE) (Agenzia Fides 03/09/2012)
