Friday, 28 May 2004

Brasilia (Fides Service) - On May 26 at the studios of Rede Vida de Televisão Brasília, the Catholic Bishops Conference of Brazil and UNDA Brazil (Union of Catholic Radio) presented the “Silver Microphone” award for the best programme of evangelisation to the “Children Evangelising Children” programme. The news was reported to Fides by the National Office of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Brazil.
The weekly radio programme launched in May 2003 broadcast by “Nazaré Radio ” in Belém involves children of the local Belém Missionary Childhood group. The children prepare the programme and lead it. The themes dealt with are varied, ranging from childhood to motherhood. The children on the programme receive in-coming telephone calls from children listening. To ensure a successful programme the children are divided in four programming teams led by its own child show host responsible for one weekly programme in the month. Naturally the children are advised by adult experts in communications and accompanied by Missionary Childhood animators.
The award was received on behalf of all Missionary Childhood members in Brazil involved in this field of evangelisation, by 9 old Erlane Pereira dos Santos, one of the four show hosts. The Silver Microphone award was instituted some years ago by UNDA Brazil to encourage production of programmes for evangelisation and to reward creativity and good taste of affiliated Catholic radio operators.
