AFRICA/MALAWI - The Reverend Vincent Frederick Mwakhwawa appointed Auxiliary Bishop of Lilongwe

Lilongwe (Agenzia Fides) - On November 15, the Holy Father appointed the Reverend Vincent Frederick Mwakhwawa, of the clergy of Lilongwe, until now vicar general of the archdiocese of Lilongwe and national director of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) in Malawi, assigning him the titular see of Aquae Thibilitanae.
Msgr. Vincent Frederick Mwakhwawa was born on 20 November 1975 in Salima, in the archdiocese of Lilongwe. He studied philosophy at Saint Anthony’s Seminary in Kachebere and theology at Saint Peter’s Major Seminary in Zomba.
He was ordained a priest on 12 July 2003 for the clergy of Lilongwe.
Following ordination, he first served as parish vicar in Namitete (2003) and Likuni (2003-2005), parish priest in Likuni (2005-2006), secretary to the bishop (2006-2007), and parish priest of Saint Patrick (2008-2010). After studying for a master’s degree in pastoral theology at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa in Nairobi, Kenya (2010-2012), he served as teacher and formator in the Kachebere Major Seminary (2012-2013), national director of the Pontifical Mission Societies, chaplain of the National Catholic Laity, member of the College of Consultors (since 2014) and, since 2023, vicar general of the archdiocese of Lilongwe.
