AFRICA/ALGERIA - Appointment of the National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies, Father Marco Pagani

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On May 2, 2023, Cardinal Luis Antonio G. Tagle, Pro-Prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelization, appointed Father Marco Pagani, of the Pontifical Institute for Foreign Missions (PIME), National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) in Algeria for a five-year term. The new director is 67 years old and has been a priest for 39 years. He entered the PIME Seminary in Monza in 1978. He obtained a baccalaureate in Theology at the Pontifical Urbaniana University (1989). Once ordained a priest, Father Pagani completed a two-year course in Educational Sciences at the Salesian Pontifical University (1984-1986), was a Missionary and Vocation Animator in the Archdiocese of Milan (1986-1991), missionary in Cameroon (1992-1998), he worked at the PIME Missionary Press (1999-2004) and then again in Cameroon as Youth Chaplain at the Parish of Saint Augustine in Ngousso, Yaoundé (2004-2009). He has also served as Head of Formation for PIME seminarians in Yaoundé-Nkolbisson (2009-2012) and was Postulant at the Abbey of Our Lady of Aiguebelle in France (2013), and in Italy he was parish priest of the Parish of Saint Nicholas in the Diocese of Treviso (2014-2017). He arrived in Algeria in 2017 and has been parish priest of the Sainte Jeanne d' Arc Parish in Touggourt and the Notre-Dame de Sable parish in Hassi Messaoud since 2020. (E.G.)
