Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On June 22, the Holy Father appointed Rev. John Lewis Adams, of the clergy of Christchurch, currently parish priest of St. Peter Chanel, as bishop of the diocese of Palmerston North (New Zealand).
His Exc. MSgr. John Lewis Adams was born in Christchurch on November 18, 1963. He attended the Holy Cross Major Seminary in Auckland, obtaining a Baccalaureate in Theology. He also holds a Diploma in Education from Christchurch Technical College, a Bachelor of Science in Geography from Canterbury University in New Zealand and an Advanced Diploma in Theology in Sydney, Australia. He was ordained a priest on June 4, 2003 for the Diocese of Christchurch.
He has held the following positions: assistant parish priest; administrator of the parish of Saint Mary, Greymouth (2005-2007); tertiary school chaplain (2008-2010); parish priest of St. Joseph's (2011-2018); Member of the Clergy Trust Fund (2011-2021); since 2009 he has been a member of the Presbyteral Council and, since 2015, he has been its president; since 2013 he has also been Episcopal Vicar of Education and, since 2014, a member of the College of Consultors; until now, parish priest of St. Peter Chanel.
