Warsaw (Agenzia Fides) - Children representing 33 dioceses in Poland will meet in Warsaw next Saturday, September 17, for the Missionary Synod dedicated to them (see Fides 22/10/2022). Four hundred participants, including children, accompanying persons, volunteers and guests are expected for this initiative promoted by the direction of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) of Poland, within the framework of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the designation of the Society of Missionary Childhood as a Pontifical Society (POSI).
"The formation of children who are part of POSI is part of the synodal path initiated in view of the 16th Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops, which will be held in Rome in October 2023 on the theme "For a synodal Church: communion, participation and mission". The young missionaries belonging to these groups are involved in the life of the Church, especially in the mission areas", explained the Polish PMS to Agenzia Fides. Celebrating the 100th anniversary of the "pontifical" status of the Missionary Society of Children, sharing what missionary children are doing in their dioceses and seeking ways to animate missionary activity even better, such is the objective of this appointment, whose theme is "With the Holy Father, let us awaken to mission!". The children come there at the end of a two-year preparation during which they have deepened what a synod is and what the PMS are; they learned the "synodal prayer", which they began to recite at every formation meeting and every 17th of the month. During the monthly meetings, they deepened their knowledge of the Holy Mass. They also prepared "The Diocesan Sheet", a graphic representation of the missionary commitment of the children in their diocese. All these sheets will be bound and will form a synodal book which will be carried in procession during the Eucharistic celebration of the Synod. As a corollary to this preparatory work, the dioceses have also produced short videos, illustrating the various missionary activities. In June of this year, at the end of the school year, the delegates of the various dioceses were sent to the Synod by their bishop in an official manner.
Cardinal Wyszyński University in Warsaw will host the Children's Missionary Synod, organized jointly with its Faculty of Missiology. During the day, which will alternate moments of prayer with group work and games, there will be interventions by Sister Roberta Tremarelli, Secretary General of POSI, Msgr. Salvatore Pennacchio, Apostolic Nuncio in Poland, President of the Missionary Commission of the Polish Episcopal Conference, and Msgr. Jan Piotrowski, Bishop of Kielce. "The Missionary Synod of Children will be an excellent opportunity to meet and celebrate together this 100th anniversary. We will rejoice in being 'pontifical', in being part of the universal Church", concludes Sister Monika Juszka RMI, National Secretary of POSI in Poland - It will also be an opportunity to reflect on how the children of POSI can contribute even better to the revitalization of missionary activities in their dioceses. We hope to prepare a declaration of intentions and principles with which the participants will be able to return to their parishes and become a ferment of missionary animation and cooperation in the local communities of the Church".
