St. Gallen (Agenzia Fides) - The European Bishops join the appeal of Pope Francis "to make next March 2, Ash Wednesday, a day of fasting for peace".
We want to join our voice, says His Exc. Mgr. Gintaras Grušas, Archbishop of Vilnius and president of the CCEE (Council of European Bishops' Conferences), with that of the Pope so that they lay down their weapons, put an immediate end to the war in Ukraine and work for peace: "The reasons for peace are stronger than any calculation of particular interests and any trust placed in the use of arms".
For the entire duration of Lent, the note sent to Fides informs, the Church in Europe will pray for peace in Ukraine and for the victims of Covid-19, calling for an end to the pandemic. According to the calendar drawn up, each national Episcopal Conference is committed to organizing the celebration of at least one Mass in this liturgical period, "as a sign of communion and hope for the entire continent".
