Rome (Agenzia Fides) - On the 20th anniversary of the terrorist attack on the Twin Towers in New York, the Comboni missionary and journalist Father Giulio Albanese, MCCJ will address the issue of the civil economy in the webinar "Economy, mission land", promoted by the European Coordination of Comboni Lay Missionaries.
The meeting, in line with the "The Economy of Francis" project, will be broadcast in live streaming on Saturday, September 11, 2021 from 10.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. on the youtube channel of the Comboni Missionaries. The recording of the meeting will be available later on the same channel.
As the note sent to Agenzia Fides informs, starting from a geopolitical analysis of the European continent Fr. Albanese will reveal the mechanisms of the shadow banking system, the so-called Shadow Banking, one of the main responsible for the increasingly unbridgeable gap between the North and the South of the world, further exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic. Therefore he will reflect on the theme of solidarity, understood as the co-responsibility of citizens, believers and non-believers, in combating social exclusion and taking care of the "common Home" of humanity. The key message of the webinar is to appeal to citizens, and in particular to the Comboni Lay Missionaries, to take care of the common goods together with local administrations. For Father Albanese "it is clear that the missionary world must take the field, evangelizing even in the economic area.
We need consecrated persons and lay people who are able to study new strategies as hoped for by Pope Francis at the historic summit of young economists in Assisi in 2020". Hence the proposal of an innovative model that involves civil society, the so-called social business, with the creation of companies with social purposes to be conceived and run as real companies, but with the imperative of social advantage instead of maximizing profits.
