AFRICA/TUNISIA - Appointment of the National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies, His Exc. Mgr. Ilario Antoniazzi

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On January 1, 2021 Cardinal Luis Antonio G. Tagle, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, appointed His Exc. Mgr. Ilario Antoniazzi, Archbishop of Tunis, National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) in Tunisia for a five-year period (1/1/2021-31/12/2025).
Mgr. Ilario Antoniazzi was born on April 23, 1948 in Rai, diocese of Vittorio Veneto, province of Treviso (Italy). After attending elementary school in his city, he entered the Missionary Institute of St. Pius X in Oderzo and attended middle school at the Apostolic School.
In 1962 he entered the minor Seminary of the diocese of the Patriarchate of Jerusalem in Beit Jala and in 1965 the major Seminary. On June 24, 1972 he was ordained a priest in Jerusalem and incardinated in the diocese of the Patriarchate of Jerusalem of the Latins.
For twenty years he carried out his pastoral service in various places in Jordan: from 1972 to 1975 as Parish Vicar in San Pio in Zerqa; from 1975 to 1976 as parish priest "in solidum" of Fuheis; from 1976 to 1980 as Parish Vicar in Marqa and from 1980 to 1992 he was parish priest in Smakieh. In 1992 he was sent to Rome to study at the Teresian Institute and obtaied a Licentiate in Spiritual Theology in 1995. He then returned to the territories of the Patriarchate, from 1995 to 2005 he was Parish Priest of Rameh (Galilee-Israel); from 2005 to 2007 Parish Priest of Reneh. Since 2007 he has served as Parish Priest of Rameh. On February, 21 2013, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him Archbishop of Tunis. (SL) (Agenzia Fides, 13/4/2021)
