AFRICA/EGYPT - The (Muslim) Minister of religious endowments: together to protect churches and mosques from attacks

Cairo (Agenzia Fides) - There is no difference between those who die to protect a church or a mosque from attacks, said Egyptian Minister for Religious Endowments, Mohammed Mukhtar Juma, as part of an initiative forum for coexistence and mutual respect organized by the Dar al Hilal Cultural Foundation in Cairo.
Representatives of the government, intellectuals and representatives of church and religious communities took part in the round table.
During his speech, Mukhtar Juma promised that under the presidency of Abdel Fattah al Sisi, Egypt is becoming "a model of religious coexistence", capable of gradually overcoming any sectarian discrimination and ensuring full equality between citizens of different faith communities. The Minister also reiterated that the various religious traditions in themselves represent a factor of redemption and healing from any fanaticism, while every form of violence and intolerance in the name of religion actually represents a mystification and a denial of religious identities and against spiritual criteria of mercy preserved and often shared by the various religious traditions.
