La Paz (Agenzia Fides) - "Let us build a Bolivia with respect, tolerance, freedom, justice and authentic progress for all", is the appeal launched by the Bishops of Bolivia, through a statement of the General Secretariat of the Bolivian Bishops' Conference, entitled "We call to the understanding and peace among all Bolivians" published on 12 November 2019.
"The future of Bolivia is built in compliance with constitutional rules and ensuring guarantees to the representatives of the people in office so that they act conscientiously and seeking the common good", states the text, sent to Agenzia Fides, which calls everyone "to build a Bolivia in peace, fulfilling the historical responsibility we have". Political leaders are asked to "favor a constitutional exit to the created situation", while civil leaders and social movements are called to maintain peace and to depose all kinds of violence.
"The General Secretariat of the Bolivian Bishops' Conference launches an urgent appeal, once again, for harmony and peace among all Bolivian brothers" and recalls that "Jesus Christ invites us to seek peace with all". Therefore may "peace reign in the country, may there be no more aggressions against one another, may ideas not be the cause of violent clashes", and above all "political positions must serve to build a country in progress and freedom, not through clashes among brothers".
The statement concludes with an invitation: "We look to the future with hope and, through peace, we continue to build Bolivia".
According to the latest news, opposition senator Jeanine Anez took over the interim presidency of Bolivia after the resignation of Evo Morales and renounces to replace him with his deputy and the presidents of the Senate and Chamber.
