Dublin (Agenzia Fides) - With a little help from "Eirinn the Lamb", which was the mascot of the World Meeting of Families held last year in Dublin, the National Direction of the Pontifical Mission Societies of Ireland officially launched the campaign for October’s Extraordinary Month of Mission 2019. World Missions Ireland has created a number of ways that individuals, schools, organisations, dioceses, parishes, communities, orders and congregations can celebrate the Extraordinary Month of Mission.
As part of a social media campaign – #MyMission and #OurMission – individuals and groups are being invited to share about their mission to reach out in kindness on either Facebook or Twitter. In addition to the digital campaign, an official hymn and prayer have also been commissioned. Choirs are encouraged to sing the hymn “Baptised and Sent”, throughout October.
The Extraordinary Month of Mission Prayer will also play a part in the EMM2019 Universal Prayer Chain.
The note sent to Agenzia Fides from Ireland recalls that "in his message for World Mission Day 2019, Pope Francis affirms that 'as far as God’s love is concerned, no one is useless or insignificant', adding that divine life is not a product to sell but a treasure to offer, communicate and announce: this is the meaning of mission'. Missio Ireland therefore invites the faithful of Ireland to reflect on the words of Pope Francis, sharing their mission on the occasion of the Extraordinary Missionary Month".
