EUROPE/IRELAND - Appointment of the National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies, Fr. Michael O’Sullivan, M.Afr.

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On 13 January 2020 Cardinal Fernando Filoni, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, appointed Fr. Michael O’Sullivan, M.Afr as National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) in Ireland, for a five-year period (13/1/2020-12/1/2025).
The new National Director is 55 years old and has been a priest for 28 years. After his priestly ordination he studied at the Pontifical Institute for Arabic and Islamic Studies (PISAI), obtaining a Licentiate. He was sent on a mission to Khartoum, he carried out his pastoral ministry in the parish (1994/1996) and was Director of the Language Institute (1996/2001). He lived a sabbatical in several Orthodox monasteries in Lebanon, Finland and Ukraine. He served at the Catholic Relief in Jerusalem (2004/2012), was Finance Administrator at the Apostolic Vicariate of South Arabia (2012/2016) and Rector of the Sanctuary of Notre Dame d'Afrique in Algiers (2017/2018 ).
