Blantyre (Agenzia Fides) - The movement of young Christian workers (Y.C.W.) of the Archdiocese of Blantyre, a Catholic youth movement, has donated a house to a family in the district of Mulanje.
The non-Catholic family, composed of an elderly woman, her daughter and her 6 children, one of whom has cerebral palsy, was identified in 2015 through the Palliative Care Support Trust, an association committed to supporting, promoting and developing palliative care services to patients and families in the Blantyre district and surrounding communities.
"Starting from our motto see, judge and act, when we found that the family in question was in desperate need of basic necessities, including logistic, we decided to intervene in their favor. We donated the house to them despite the fact that the family does not belong to the Catholic Church", said Father Chrispin Ngunde, former president of YCW of the Archdiocese of Blantyre.
During the delivery ceremony, the chief of the village Mandanda thanked YCW for the exemplary work done and also invited the young people of his village to follow their example. "I never imagined that this would happen in my village. I am speechless. You have brought hope to the desperate", reads the note from the local Bishops sent to Fides.
"As a family, we truly thank God for this blessing. It is like a dream, you could have chosen any other family in this village to help, we thank God and we ask Him to continue to bless you and the whole Catholic Church", said one member of the family.
Father Alick Ntapara, who represented the archdiocesan chaplain of young people, urged everyone to follow the example of YCW members who proved to be good evangelizers of Christ. "As a priest in the parish of Chisitu in Mulanje, I am very grateful for this donation and I invite the young people of Mulanje to work hard at school so that, in the future, they will bring positive changes to their communities".
YCW is a youth movement of the Catholic Church, run by young people, who are committed to proclaiming the Good News of Jesus Christ through action. The activities of the movement include, among others, the sharing of the word of God, carrying out social works and works of charity. Their motto is to see, judge and act.
