EUROPE/SWITZERLAND - The proposal of the Gospel in today's multicultural context

Tuesday, 5 May 2015

Solothurn (Agenzia Fides) - "Love impels us... (cfr. 2 Cor 5:14): the proposal of freedom and joy of the Gospel". This is the theme of the International Day of Spring 2015 which was held in Solothurn at the "G. B. Scalabrini" International Centre of the Scalabrinian Secular Missionaries, from 1 to 3 May.
The missionary perspective of St. Paul’s words flows from a clear starting point: the love, of which the Triune God is the source. The development of the theme, for approximately 550 participants, including migrants and refugees, of diverse origins and social background, was divided in different moments and entrusted in particular to prof. Jörg Splett, German anthropologist and philosopher of religion. During a forum animated by the young people's questions, prof. Splett proposed some challenging points considered later in the different working groups, such as the proposal of the Gospel in today's multicultural context, that challenge us.
During the meeting, there were moments of biblical reflection, prayer, excursions and personal exchanges. During the Mass on Saturday, May 2 in the Cathedral, presided by His Exc. Mgr. Felix Gmür, Bishop of Basel, two young people (from Rome and Lublin) took their vows of poverty, chastity and obedience, in the Scalabrinian Secular Missionaries. (MG/SL) (Agenzia Fides 05/05/2015)
