Lodz (Agenzia Fides) – The programme of the 4th National Mission Congress to be held 12 to 14 June 2015, was the focus of a National Meeting of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) Poland, which took place 9 and 10 February chaired by Mgr .Tomasz Atlas, PMS National Director POM, at the Retreat Centre of the archdiocese of Lodz Porszewice. According to information sent to Fides, participants at the meeting included PMS diocesan directors and bishops’ mission delegates.
The aim of the upcoming National Mission Congress is to revitalise missionary cooperation in every community in Poland and to promote the " missionary conversion" of which Pope Francis speaks. The event is being organised by the Bishops’ Commission for Mission and the Pontifical Mission Societies. Bishop Jerzy Mazur, President of the Bishops’ Commission for Mission, presented the Congress programme and then presided an evening celebration of the Eucharist.
The second day of work began with Mass presided by Archbishop Marek of Lódź, followed by a paper by Fr . Tomasz Szyszka SVD, formerly a missionary in Bolivia, on the pastoral fruits of the Latin American Mission Congress. Then the National Director and the secretaries of the four PMS presented programmes for 2015, with special reference to the centenary Pontifical Missionary Union, which falls in 2016.
