ASIA/TAIWAN - Chinese language edition of “The joy of loving: a guide to daily living with Mother Teresa” marks the 100 anniversary of the birth of Blessed Teresa of Calcutta

Taipei (Agenzia Fides) – With the publication of 2,000 copies of a new Chinese language edition of the book “The joy of loving: a guide to daily living with Mother Teresa”, the Daughters of St Paul in Taiwan wish to pay homage to Blessed Teresa of Calcutta and prepare to celebrate on 26 August 2010 the 100th anniversary of the Mother's birth. According to Sr. Huang Su Ling, chief writer of the Pauline Editions, La Sapienza, “we wish to re-launch all the beautiful words of Mother Teresa on the global network because, as Mother Teresa used to say, the best evangelisation is to help people experience the joy of love”. The DSP sisters have published various works of Mother Teresa in Chinese including Come Be My Light --The Private Writings of the ‘Saint of Calcutta’ ”; “Finding Calcutta”; “Raccolta delle parole di Madre Teresa”.
Agnes Ganxhe Bejaxhiu was born on 26 August 1910 in Skopje, Macedonia (ex-Yugoslavia), to Albanian parents. After a long period of time as a member of the Congregation of the Sisters of Loreto, as a school teacher, one day in Calcutta Teresa feels called by God to serve the poorest of the poor. In 1948 Mother Teresa leaves the Sisters of Loreto and puts on a white sari with a blue border. In 1950 the Congregation of the Missionaries of Charity was officially approved. In 1962 the branch of the Brother Missionaries of Charity was started; in 1969 the International Association of Mother Teresa Collaborators. In 1976 Mother Teresa founds a contemplative branch of the Missionaries of Charity. In 1979 Mother Teresa is awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. On 5 September 1997 at the age of 87 Mother Teresa dies.
