AFRICA/GUINEA BISSAU - Fr. Davide Sciocco, Director of Radio Sol Mansi, elected regional superior of PIME in Guinea Bissau

Bissau (Agenzia Fides)- Fr. Davide Sciocco, aged 45, is the new regional superior of the Pontifical Institute for Foreign Missions (PIME) in Guinea-Bissau. He takes the place of Fr. Marco Pifferi, who served in this position for 8 years.
Fr. Sciocco, at present Director of Guinea Bissau's Catholic radio station, Radio Sol Mansi, has been elected for a four year term. Fr. David said the position is a service and that he will strive to meet the needs of the local mission. Fr David Sciocco, as Superior of the Guinea Bissau PIME Region, is flanked by Vice Superior Fr. Maurizio Fioravanti and councillor Fr. Jaime Coimbra Do Nascimento.
“ PIME has been present in Bissau since 1947 and is here today with 13 missionaries. PIME has also given Guinea Bissau a Bishop, Mgr Carlos Pedro Zilli of the diocese of Bafatà, and hopes soon to ordain its first Guinean priest” a statement sent to Fides Agency by the Curia in Bissau concludes.
