Salta (Agenzia Fides) - The archdiocese of Salta, in Argentina has organised a Marian Congress 6-7 October to be held at Rosario de Lerma as part of celebrations for the bi-centenary of the local Church (see Fides 19/5/2006). The purpose of the Congress is to “renew the faith of our fathers on this path of 200 years, in order to face present day challenges”.
The Marian Congress will open on 6 October with a Youth Day consisting of conferences and workshops, an evening torch light procession during which Archbishop Mario Antonio Cargnello will address a message to the young people and to follow, various cultural events. Saturday 7 October Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary there will be an Evangelisation March with the images of Our Lady from every parish. The Congress will conclude with a special Mass presided by the Archbishop and concelebrated by the priests of the archdiocese.
The local Church of Salta is marking the 200th anniversary of its founding and the Archbishop has declared March 2006 - March 2007 "Year of the bi-centenary of the Church in Salta", with the main purpose of “celebrating our fidelity to God for 200 years as a diocesan Church, contemplating the face of Christ as the Lord of Miracles, being his disciples, ready to live his Gospel, following the example of Mary of the Miracle”. Other bi-centenary activities include Family Week 9 - 15 October; 1st Days of Church History, 12 - 14 October; the publication of material on the creation of the diocese and appointment of the first Bishop Nicolás Videla del Pino.
