Lima (Agenzia Fides) - A nation wide campaign in Peru to vaccinate the entire population against German measles, rubella, will start in October.
In a meeting with the president of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Bishop Héctor Miguel Cabrejos Vidarte, OFM, the Peruvian health minister stressed the importance of the Church’s support in this undertaking. “For the good of the people every bishop should be informed so that each may support the campaign in his own diocese”, the minister said.
At the end of Sunday Masses priests will encourage the people to go to the nearest medical centre to be vaccinated. “I wish this campaign to be a success for the good of all Peruvians, in particularly the poorest of our people”, the president of the Bishops’ Conference said.
The goal is to vaccinate in five weeks 70% of the people, about 20 million men and women aged between 2 to 39. It is important, therefore to ensure that every person including those in the most remote corners of the country, is guaranteed the right to vaccination.
