AFRICA/INDIAN OCEAN - National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies appointed

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On January 7, 2025, Cardinal Luis Antonio G. Tagle, Pro-Prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelization (Section for the First Evangelization and the New Particular Churches), appointed Father Moïse Lalty Diatta, of the Missionary Society of the Holy Spirit under the Protection of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (Spiritans), as National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies in the Indian Ocean for the next five years (2025-2030). Father Diatta (53) was born in Kaonè (Senegal) and was ordained a priest in 2002 after completing his philosophical and theological studies. In the same year he was appointed vicar of the parish of Saint Jean in Kataco in Guinea Conakry, from where he was assigned to the parish of Saint Joseph in Boffa from 2004 to 2007. He then served as treasurer of the Order's province of North-East Africa and at the same time as parish priest of the parish of Saint Christophe in Yoff in Senegal (2007-2016). Since 2016 he has also been in charge of the parish of Grand Anse in Praslin, and from 2019 to 2022 he was appointed first assistant of the Spiritans. Since 2023 he has been parish priest of the parish of Saint Therese of the Child Jesus in Plaisance in Mahé. (EG) (Agenzia Fides, 8/1/2025)
