Vatican (Agenzia Fides) - On December 6, 2024, Cardinal Luis Antonio G. Tagle, Pro-Prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelization (Section for First Evangelization and the New Particular Churches), appointed Father Lorenzo Scontrino (OFM Cap), as National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Greece for the next five years. Father Scontrino (56) was ordained a priest seven years ago. The new National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Greece belongs to the Province of the Capuchin Friars of Veneto. He was born in Foggia in southern Italy and, after graduating as an electronics technician, moved first to Modena, where he worked in the metalworking industry, and then to Padua in Veneto. After graduating in nursing from the University of Ferrara (2008), he entered the Capuchin Order and began his religious journey in the convent of Lendinara (Rovigo). After his novitiate in the convent of Lovere (Bergamo), he studied philosophy at the Institute of the Order's Province in Milan. After completing his theological studies in Venice, he was ordained a priest on July 1, 2017 in the Sanctuary of Santa Maria del Fonte in Caravaggio (Bergamo) by Bishop Angelo Pagano of Harar (Ethiopia). He worked for six years in the Department of Evangelization of the Capuchin Province of Veneto as a preacher in the parish missions. In 2022 he was transferred to Greece and assigned to the Convent of Corfu, where he worked together with the parish priest in the Sacred Heart Parish. (EG) (Agenzia Fides, 7/1/2025)
