Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father Francis has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the Apostolic Vicariate of Vientiane, presented by His Eminence Cardinal Louis-Marie Ling Mangkhanekhoun, I.V.D.
The Holy Father Francis has appointed the Rev. Fr. Anthony Adoun Hongsaphong, of the clergy of the Apostolic Vicariate of Paksé, currently Professor of the National Major Seminary in Thakeh and Head of pastoral care in the 11 mission stations of the Apostolic Vicariate of Paksé as Apostolic Vicar of the same See.
Anthony Adoun Hongsaphong was born on April 4, 1964 in Paksé, in the Apostolic Vicariate of Paksé. He studied Philosophy and Theology at the St. Charles Boromée Major Seminary, obtaining a degree from the Université de Fribourg in Switzerland.
He was ordained a priest on September 3, 1994 for the clergy of the Apostolic Vicariate of Paksé.
He has held the following roles and completed further studies: Licentiate in Canon Law at the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas – Angelicum in Rome (1994-1996); Parish Vicar of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Ubon Ratchathani, Thailand (1997-1999); Judge of the Ecclesiastical Tribunal of the Archdiocese of Tharé-Nonseng, Thailand (1997-2005); Parish Priest of the Holy Family in Ban Nongkhu, Thailand (1999-2005); Rector of the Pastor Bonus preparatory Seminary in Paksé, Laos (2005-2014); Parish Priest of the Cathedral and Head of the 12 Catholic communities in the Apostolic Vicariate of Paksé (2005-2014); Professor of Canon Law, Sacramental Law, Ecumenism, Introduction to Sacred Scripture at the National Major Seminary in Thakeh (since 2005); Responsible for the pastoral care in the 11 mission stations of the Apostolic Vicariate of Paksé (since 2014).
