Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father has appointed Rev. Fr. Romeo Duetao Convocar, of the clergy of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Agaña (Guam), currently Parish Priest of Blessed Diego Luis de San Vitores in Tamuning, Guam, as Bishop of Chalan Kanoa (Northern Mariana Islands).
His Exc. Msgr. Romeo Duetao Convocar was born on 13 April 1970 in January, Iloilo, Philippines. He studied philosophy in Dumaguete City (Philippines) (1987-1991) and theology in Jaro (Philippines) (1991-1996).
He was ordained a priest on September 17, 1996 and first incardinated in the Military Ordinariate of the Philippines, and then incardinated in the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Agaña on March 15, 2016.
He has held the following positions and completed further studies: Chaplain in the Office of the Military Bishop (1996-1997); Interim Chaplain of the Southern Command (1997-1998) and Northern Command (1998-2002) of the Armed Forces of the Philippines; Basic (1998) and Advanced (2002) Course for Military Officers at the Combat Arm School, Training and Doctrine Command, Philippine Army, Nueva Ecija, Philippines; Chaplain in the Central Command of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and Chaplain at the Naval Base in Cavite (2002-2004); Chaplain at the Fort Bonifacio Military Base (2004-2006); Parish administrator of the parish of St. Joseph in Inarajan (Guam) (2006-2007); Spiritual director at the educational center of the Military Ordinariate of the Philippines "Domus Josephi Formation Centre" (2007-2012); Parish Priest of St. Isidro, in Malolojloj, Guam (2012-2018); Rector of the Archdiocesan Seminary of Guam, St. John Paul the Great (2014-2017); Advanced training course at the Institute of Tribunal Practice in Sydney (Australia) (2017-2018); Rector of the Cathedral Basilica Dulce Nombre de Maria in Agaña (Guam) (2018-2022); Vicar General of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Agaña (2022-2023); Apostolic Administrator of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Agaña (2023-2024); Parish Priest of Blessed Diego Luis de San Vitores, in Tamuning, Guam (since 2022).
