AMERICA/CHILE - National Youth Day: encounter with a Catholic identity, open to all

Monday, 15 July 2024

La Serena (Agenzia Fides) - Thousands of young people from all over the country will gather accompanied by their pastors, assistants and animators who serve in the different youth pastoral environments, on the occasion of National Youth Day (JNJ).

Approved by the plenary assembly of bishops at the beginning of 2023, and officially announced in September of that year, the JNJ will be held from 21 to 26 January 2025, in the archdiocese of La Serena, linking the event with the Jubilee convened by Pope Francis for 2025. 6 months after its creation, the Commission in charge of organizing the JNJ met on site, 500 kilometers north of the capital, to take stock of the preparations.

The website presents the JNJ as “a meeting with a Catholic identity, open to all, a pilgrimage, a youth festival and a relevant moment of evangelization for young people. It also aims to be an invitation for this generation of young people to commit themselves to building a more just and supportive society, meeting the suffering faces of the diocese, to encourage them to transform that reality."

Under the motto: 'Young pilgrims of hope', cultural and artistic activities open to the city will be carried out, in settings specially set up for this. There will also be opening liturgical celebrations, prayer vigils and Eucharistic celebrations. Contact with the families, institutions and parish communities that will host the young pilgrims is also very important, as a valuable meeting opportunity. (AP) (Agenzia Fides, 15/7/2024)
