Changzhi (Agenzia Fides) - Looking back at the history of the Church in China, the Diocese of Changzhi (in the Chinese province of Shanxi) commemorates the "Primum Concilium Sinense", the first General Council of the Catholic Church in China, which took place in Shanghai from May 15 to June 12, 1924. As reported by the Catholic news portal "xinde.org", from May 20 to 24, Father Han Qingping led a study seminar on the history of the Church in China for all the priests of the Diocese of Changzhi. During the five-day course, which took place in the presence of Bishop Peter Ding Lingbin, Father Han systematically traced the history of the Catholic Church in the country, from the first evangelization to its integration into the local culture, providing a comprehensive overview of the important stages and key events of this unique historical process. Father Han's talks were deepened by moments of discussion on the events and themes presented. The study of the various steps that the Catholic community has gone through in the context of Chinese society and its changes provides a historical basis to shed light on the contribution of the Catholic community to harmonious coexistence in Chinese society.
