Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Clement Papa, until now interim director of the Spiritual Year at the Good Shepherd Seminary, as coadjutor archbishop of the metropolitan archdiocese of Mount Hagen, Papua New Guinea.
Msgr. Clement Papa was born on 22 February 1971 in Mount Hagen, Western Highlands, Papua New Guinea.
He carried out his studies in philosophy at the Good Shepherd Seminary in Maiwara, Madang, and after a pastoral and spiritual experience, his theological studies at Holy Spirit Seminary and the Catholic Theological Institute in Bomana, National Capital District.
He was ordained a priest on 3 December 1999 for the metropolitan archdiocese of Mount Hagen.
After ordination, he first held the offices of deputy parish priest of Fatima (2000-2001) and parish priest in Kol-Ambulua (2002-2003). He was awarded a licentiate in dogmatic theology from the Pontifical Urban University of Rome (2006), and went on to serve as chaplain of the Holy Trinity Teachers’ College (2007) and head of studies at the Good Shepherd Seminary of Mount Hagen (2008). After receiving his doctorate in theology from Melbourne College of Divinity (2021), he held the roles of teacher at the Good Shepherd Seminary (2021), rector of the Good Shepherd Seminary (2011-2014, 2022), member of the Finance Committee and of the Founding Council of the Archdiocese (2011-2014, 2023), and since 2023, interim director of the Spiritual Year of the Good Shepherd Seminary.
