Shanghai (Agenzia Fides) - In view of the beginning of the Marian Month of May, online bookings are now available for the organization of pilgrimages to the Marian Shrine of Our Lady of Sheshan in the Diocese of Shanghai. In Sheshan, a solemn Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 30, in the afternoon to inaugurate the Marian Month and pilgrimages. On May 24, the Feast of Mary, Help of Christians, and the World Day of Prayer for the Church in China, the Shrine will host the pilgrimage of the Diocese of Shanghai and Bishop Joseph Shen Bin will preside at the solemn Mass in the Basilica. Both individual and collective reservations can be made online on the website of the Diocese of Shanghai (天主教上海教区 catholicsh.org). Each group of pilgrims will be given an identification card and pilgrims will be admitted with an identity card. The "Instructions for the Pilgrimage to Sheshan", the "Booking Procedure" and the "Program" have been published on the diocese's website. At a coordination meeting, representatives of the Diocese of Shanghai and the authorities have drawn up a detailed program for receiving pilgrims from all parts of mainland China.
The Sheshan Pilgrimage Office recommends that all pilgrims respect the environment around the shrine and dispose of any garbage generated during the pilgrimage. Bishop Joseph Shen Bin thanked the civil authorities and all those involved in organizing the Marian pilgrimage (security, transport, etc.). The Bishop invited everyone to contribute to the orderly conduct of the pilgrimages and to a climate of reflection suitable for the celebration of the Eucharistic Liturgy and the administration of the Sacrament of Confession, creating the conditions for "a beautiful and valuable pilgrimage experience for all Catholic pilgrims".
