"The work of these three years in which we completed the project was tiring but constant, the efforts and results unfortunately were affected by extreme events of which Mozambique was a victim - says the project leader of Doctors with Africa CUAMM, Giuseppe Bufardeci. More than 3 years alongside institutions, local authorities and local associations for a project co-financed by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) and implemented by CUAMM.
"We will devote a large part of our efforts to improving neonatal wards, tools and infrastructures, but also and above all to staff growth, strengthening the ambulance system, training and research", said Giovanni Putoto, head of the programming of CUAMM. The doctor had also already highlighted CUAMM's commitment to protecting the most fragile population severely affected by the indirect effects of Covid-19. "Among these, he stresses, an increase of 60% of maternal mortality, 23% of malnutrition, 10-20% of tuberculosis mortality, 30% of victims of malaria, 5-10% of deaths due to HIV".
