Mexico City (Agenzia Fides) - A message of consolation, closeness and accompaniment to people who suffer from violence and encouragement to all people of good will not to renounce the commitment to build peace, was sent by the Mexican Bishops who also ask for the conversion of those who cause suffering and death. The message entitled "May the Lord bless us with peace" was read yesterday, Sunday, January 30, in all Mexican parishes at the end of Mass. Encouraging people and institutions that seek to build and maintain peace, the Bishops underlined the importance of small gestures in favor of peace, and pledged to support them: "We want to join the efforts of all peacemakers and we commit ourselves to walk with them". Humanity is at a crossroads, to which Mexico is no stranger, reveals the message, which invites us to embark on a journey towards a life in peace, health and sustainability, which can be reached with individual and community participation, ie through individuals, communities and institutions.
The Bishops quoted the theme chosen by Pope Francis for the 55th World Day of Peace, on January 1, 2022, "Dialogue between generations, education and work: tools to build lasting peace", recalling that achieving and maintaining peace is a task of all and for all. "We want to once again encourage the Catholic faithful and men and women of good will to renew their efforts to build peace in our homeland", they reiterate. Then inviting to conversion those who attack peace, the Bishops assure: "Let us help each other, let us accompany each other and undertake the path of conversion to be artisans of peace". National and diocesan pastoral commissions are invited to include the theme of peace as a transversal theme in all their pastoral projects. Finally, the Bishops invite us to re-read and reflect on the exhortation of the Mexican Episcopal Conference of 2010 entitled "May Mexico have a dignified life in Christ our Peace", on the Church's mission to build peace in the country.
