Kampala (Agenzia Fides) - The "common thread" of the days of the General Assembly of the Pontifical Mission Societies of Uganda, which took place at the Shrine of the Martyrs of Uganda in recent days, comes from the Synod. "For a Synodal Church: communion, participation and mission" was the theme which guided the participants in their common reflections. After two years of online meetings imposed by the pandemic and the resulting restrictions, the National Council of Pontifical Mission Societies has reconvened for its Annual General Assembly. This Council, composed of all the diocesan directors, the National Director, the National Secretaries of the Pontifical Society of St. Peter the Apostle and of Missionary Childhood and of the President of the Episcopal Commission for Missions in Uganda, gathered to share reports and experiences in the mission and ordinary work of the PMS.
Bishop Damiano Guzzetti, President of the Episcopal Commission for Missions in Uganda, dwelt on the importance of conveying some issues that emerged from the Synod during the days of the assembly. The Apostolic Nuncio, Archbishop Luigi Bianco, also participated in the work and encouraged the directors to deepen their reading of the documents of the Church, in particular the Apostolic Exhortation "Evangelii Gaudium", the social Encyclical "Fratres Omnes"! and the Apostolic Letter "Patris Corde". "We have decided to promote and enhance the celebrations of the anniversaries of the PMS in 2022 in our annual plan, emphasizing in particular the charisms of our founders", underlined Fr. Pontian Kaweesa, National Director of PMS Uganda. (EG) (Agenzia Fides, 11/12/2021)
