Seoul (Agenzia Fides) - Advent is a time of mercy: with this awareness the Archdiocese of Seoul promoted the celebration of the sacrament of Confession for young people placing 30 "Tents of reconciliation" outside Myeongdong Cathedral, capturing the attention of tourists and curious passers-by.
As reported to Fides by the Archdiocese of Seoul, the initiative offers young Catholics an opportunity to receive forgiveness not in a traditional confessional, but in a tent, a place that has a significant biblical and theological meaning.
"Young people are valuable assets for the Catholic Church", said Fr. Peter Yang Jang-ook, the director of the Department of Youth of the Archdiocese of Seoul, and the main organizer of the event. "In our modern society, however, it is not easy for young people to maintain their faith. Therefore, we would like to offer them the opportunity to feel and experience the mercy of God".
Young people have been invited to spend time to pray, reflect and make an examination of conscience inside the cathedral, listening to Bible readings and singing. Young people live this opportunity as "a time of healing and forgiveness"; as a time when "Christ welcomes confession". The initiative involves 30 priest confessors, among them Cardinal Andrew Yeom Soo-jung and Bishop Peter Chung Soon-taek. (PA) (Agenzia Fides 23/12/2015)
