Kinshasa (Agenzia Fides) - More than 30 people have died and several wounded: is the provisional toll of the clashes between the armed forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo and the guerrillas of the group of Ugandan origin ADF-NALU, which occurred in Eringeti in the territory of Beni, in North Kivu (in eastern DRC). According to the information sent to Fides by the civil society in North Kivu, the fighting lasted 10 hours: it started at 3pm on Sunday, November 29 and ended around one o'clock in the morning today, 30 November.
Among the 30 dead, 14 were ADF guerrillas, 8 Congolese soldiers, seven civilians were killed with machetes by guerrillas and one is a blue helmet of MONUSCO (the UN Mission in the DRC).
The wounded are about a dozen, while 43 buildings were set on fire by jihadists of the ADF, including the health center in Eringeti, with the complete destruction of the stock of medicines.
According to the statement sent to Fides, it is a provisional toll because the Congolese military are patrolling the area in search of guerrillas hiding or injured. The association of civil society in North Kivu says that most of the jihadists killed are of Somali origin, while the survivors of the attack of the ADF claim that the guerrillas shouted "Allah Akbar" ("God is the greatest", in Arabic), the battle cry of the jihadist formations. Following the attack, most of the inhabitants of Eringeti fled into the forest. (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 30/11/2015)
