Islamabad (Agenzia Fides) - Christians in Pakistan who escape religious persecution have to be recognized and welcomed in Europe: is what the NGO "Global Minorities Alliance" (GMA), based in the United Kingdom asks European governments, noting that "refugees and asylum seekers are risking their lives if they are sent home". In a note sent to Fides, the NGO cites international conventions such as the one on civil and political rights, recalling cases where Pakistani Christians were "burned in brick kilns, or their homes were destroyed", expressing "concern for the safety of Religious minorities in Pakistan because of the political, economic and judicial situation, often used to target vulnerable minorities".
GMA hopes that Europe recognizes the phenomenon and takes the necessary measures, promoting respect for religious freedom and religious minorities. The NGO cites, finally, the case of two young Pakistani Christians, brother and sister, who entered the UK with a student visa, and subsequently applied for asylum on the basis of religious persecution, asking for their application to be accepted.
