Cairo (Agenzia Fides) - Bishops and pastoral operators have to encourage "all citizens, and in particular young people, to participate in the second phase of the electoral process". Coptic voters must choose competent and honest candidates to support, with the spirit to serve the people and the nation, and not those of religious affiliation. These are some indications expressed by Coptic Orthodox Patriarch Tawadros II during the meeting with a group of bishops and priests who yesterday paid him a visit on the occasion of the third anniversary of the beginning of his patriarchal ministry. This was reported by Coptic sources consulted by Agenzia Fides.
In recent days, Coptic Orthodox Bishop Angelos, head of the Diocese of Shoubra north, had to issue a statement to deny the news of his direct support regarding certain candidates. The electoral system imposes the presence of Coptic candidates also on the lists of the Islamist Salafist al-Nur Party. (GV) (Agenzia Fides 19/11/2015)
