AFRICA/DR CONGO - Open discussion on the mission in Africa 50 years after the "Ad Gentes" apostolic decree

Thursday, 19 November 2015 evangelization

Kinshasa (Agenzia Fides) - "We are proud and happy of the good news that we have received thanks to the action of missionaries. It is necessary for us to pause on the decree on the universal mission 50 years after its publication", said Mgr. Nicolas Djomo, Bishop of Tshumbe and President of the Episcopal Conference of the Democratic Republic of Congo, recalling the 50th anniversary of the "Ad Gentes" apostolic decree on the missionary activity of the Church, in his homily at the opening Mass of the International Colloquium on the "Evangelising mission in Africa today. Challenges and prospects", which opened on November 17 in Kinshasa.
In his opening address to His Eminence, Cardinal Laurent Monsengwo Pasinya, Archbishop of Kinshasa stressed that evangelization requires a work of inculturation of faith. A need echoed by all the recent Popes.
The same visit of Pope Francis in Nairobi, Kampala and Bangui, noted the participants, is part of a Church that wants to be missionary. (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 19/11/2015)
