AMERICA/VENEZUELA - Resignation of the Apostolic Vicar of Puerto Ayacucho, appointment of successor

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On 14 October 2015 the Holy Father accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the Apostolic Vicariate of Puerto Ayacucho (Venezuela), presented by His Exc. Mgr. José Ángel Divassón Cilveti, S.D.B, in accordance with canon. 401 § 1 of the Code of Canon Law. The Pope appointed Rev. Fr. Jonny Eduardo Reyes Sequera, S.D.B., Director of Novices as Apostolic Vicar of Puerto Ayacucho. He was assigned the titular see of Canapio.
Rev. Fr. Jonny Eduardo Reyes Sequera, S.D.B. was born on October 5, 1952 in Caracas (Venezuela). After primary and secondary education in his native Country, he studied Theology at the Pontifical Salesian University in Rome. He obtained a Licentiate in Moral Theology at the Alfonsianum, in Rome. He was ordained a priest on December 8, 1979.
Since ordination he has served the following pastoral and academic roles: 1979-1982: Vocations promoter; 1982-1984: Studies in Rome; 1984-1985: Local Vicar of the San Luca Seminary, in Caracas; 1985-1994: Local superior of the same Seminary; 1986-1992: Provincial Councillor; 1994-1999: Local Superior and Provincial Councilor in the Don Bosco College in Valencia (Venezuela); 1999-2002: Provincial Vicar; 2002-2008: Provincial Superior; 2008-2013: Local Superior in the Don Bosco College; 2013: Master of Novices.
