Faisalabad (Agenzia Fides) – She was threatened, beaten, insulted and locked in a bathroom for three hours for using a toilet used by Muslim students: this is the story of Sara Bibi, a student who attends a primary school in Samundari near Faisalabad, in Punjab. The episode reveals the discriminatory mentality in Pakistani society. Christians are considered "unclean". It is an episode in which even religious faith matters, as the violence on the girl is caused by the fact that she is a Christian and was punished by the school headmaster.
Christians strongly condemned "the headmaster’s inhuman behavior". The "Pakistan Christian Congress" tells Fides that "Christians often cannot sit in restaurants, schools, universities, offices with Muslims, or drink water from the same source. This discrimination is the result of hatred. The prohibition to use the toilets in schools is ridiculous". The organizations are asking the government in Punjab a thorough investigation on the incident and measures to promote tolerance and interfaith harmony in Pakistan. (PA) (Agenzia Fides 12/11/2015)
