Seoul (Agenzia Fides) - Grief, closeness and prayer on behalf of the Church in Korea for the victims of the massacre in Paris: is what Cardinal Andrew Yeom Soo-jung, Archbishop of Seoul, writes in a message sent to the Archbishop of Paris, Cardinal André Vingt-Trois, on behalf of all Korean Catholics. In the message, sent to Fides, Cardinal Korea expressed "deep shock and sadness" and promises intense closeness and prayers for the victims of the attacks. "We pray for the injured and for those who are committed to helping the people affected: may God grant them strength, comfort, and peace", the text reads. "We pray so that the city of Paris bravely recovers soon. May God grant us wisdom and courage to resist the violent and inhuman attacks worldwide. May God guide us all towards the path of peace", the message continues.
The Catholic Church in Korea has had close links with the Catholic Church in France for over a century. French missionaries contributed to the evangelization of Korea during the birth of the Church on the Korean Peninsula. In 2016 Korea recalls the 150th anniversary of the persecution of Byung-in (1866), when dozens of French missionaries sacrificed their lives, bearing witness to the Gospel in Korean. The Korean and the French Catholic Church are preparing for a joint celebration to honor those martyrs. (PA) (Agenzia Fides 16/11/2015)
